Questly is built with your privacy in mind. You can use the entire app without an account, and nothing we keep is used to identify you. This policy explains the small amount of information we do handle, and why.
Questly ("the app", "we", "us") is an educational app that teaches users about legendary historical figures through daily stories, quizzes, and a collectible card system. This policy applies to the Questly mobile application on iOS and Android, and to the web pages we operate in connection with it.
You do not need an account to read legends, take quizzes, build streaks, or collect cards. Everything works from the moment you open the app, and your progress — experience points (XP), coins, streaks, interests, completed legends, saved items, and your collection — is stored on your device.
So that this progress can be carried into an account if you ever create one, Questly also signs you in anonymously in the background and keeps a backup copy of that progress against the anonymous identifier it is given. That record contains your progress and nothing else: no name, no email address, and nothing that identifies you. If you later create an account, it is merged into your account.
We do not show ads and we do not sell your data to anyone.
We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how Questly is used, so that we know what to build and what to fix. It records events such as which legends are opened, whether a story or quiz is finished or abandoned, when the paywall is shown, which language a quest is read in, and whether a subscription is started or completed.
We also record two things about you as a reader: whether you currently subscribe, and the quest language you last chose.
These events are recorded against an anonymous app identifier, and against your account identifier if you have an account. We use them only in aggregate to improve the app. We do not use them to identify you personally, we do not use them for advertising, and we do not sell them.
You can create a free account to back up your progress and restore it on another device. An account is required only if you choose to subscribe, so that your subscription stays linked to you and can be restored on any device you own.

Accounts and progress backups are handled by Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) acting as our data processor. You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
We never see or store your password — it is handled entirely by Firebase Authentication.
Questly works with creators who share links to the app. So that we can credit the right creator when someone installs Questly through their link, we operate a redirect page that briefly records your device's public IP address alongside that creator's name.
When you first open the app, Questly checks whether a recent referral record matches your current IP address. If it does, the creator's name is saved with your install. This check happens once, and only within 24 hours of the link being opened.
Your IP address is used solely as a temporary matching key for this purpose. It is not linked to your identity, not used to build a profile, not used for advertising, and not shared with the creators themselves — creators only ever receive totals showing how many people subscribed through their link.
Questly offers optional premium subscriptions. Purchases are processed securely by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you installed the app. We never see or store your payment details.
We use RevenueCat, a subscription management service, to verify and manage subscription status. RevenueCat processes your account identifier and your subscription transaction information in order to confirm whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat does not receive your payment card details. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
When a subscription is purchased, we keep a record of the product purchased, the amount, the date, and the referring creator (if any). We keep these records for accounting purposes and to pay creators correctly.
Questly may contain links to external web pages, such as our image credits and attribution page. These pages are opened in your device's browser and are governed by their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external sites.
Questly is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Progress backed up against an anonymous identifier is kept until it is merged into an account or the identifier falls out of use. Referral matching records expire and are not used after 24 hours. Analytics events are retained by Firebase Analytics under Google's standard retention period. Purchase records are kept in anonymised form for accounting purposes.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
